Overview: Shanghai International Medical Center (SIMC) is one of the healthcare reform pilot projects jointly supported by the National Health Commission and the Shanghai municipal government. Officially opened on May 28, 2014, SIMC is positioned as an international comprehensive hospital and platform-based medical institution, integrating top specialist resources from leading public hospitals with an international-standard care model for patients from Shanghai, across China, and overseas.

Location and Campus Scale: SIMC is located in the core area of Shanghai International Medical Park, near Shanghai International Tourism and Resorts Zone and Shanghai Disneyland, about 15 km from Lujiazui and 17 km from Pudong International Airport. The campus spans about 104 mu with a gross floor area of approximately 97,000 square meters.

Facilities and Equipment: Built with reference to both JCI and Chinese tertiary-hospital standards, SIMC is equipped with 500 beds, 118 outpatient consulting rooms, 15 operating rooms, and 10 integrated labor-delivery-recovery rooms, supported by major equipment including CT, MRI, DSA, and linear accelerators.

Expert Platform and Specialty Collaboration: As a multi-site practice platform for specialists, SIMC collaborates with key specialty teams from more than ten tertiary hospitals affiliated with Shanghai Jiao Tong University and Fudan University. More than 2,000 experts have provided consultation or surgery at SIMC, with over 500 long-term multi-site specialists, and more than 70% holding senior professional titles. The hospital currently includes 27 clinical departments and 6 medico-technical departments, with 3 key specialties and 7 featured disciplines, while continuing to strengthen oncology, radiotherapy, obstetrics and gynecology, reproductive medicine, endoscopy, brain disorders, and rehabilitation programs. The Second Department of Surgery covers a broad spectrum of conditions, including breast, thyroid, hepatobiliary, urologic, bone and joint, hernia, and anorectal diseases.

International Collaboration and Payment Access: SIMC continues to develop domestic and international collaboration pathways, including remote specialist consultation and international referral advisory services. On payment access, SIMC has connected with 60+ international commercial insurance direct-settlement channels and participates in layered payment pilots combining social medical insurance and supplementary payment models. SIMC also supports reimbursement for a wide range of premium commercial insurance plans.

Service Philosophy and Care Model: SIMC follows the 5H philosophy, advancing care quality through hospital environment, hardware facilities, hospitality-minded staff attitude, and whole-process service standards, while emphasizing clinical quality, patient safety, and patient experience across the full journey. In health management, SIMC has launched a 1+7 family health manager model covering prevention, chronic disease follow-up, specialist referral support, nutrition, and rehabilitation services.

Research and Development: SIMC has advanced the application process for national drug clinical trial base and medical device clinical trial base qualifications, and continues to strengthen clinical research capability.
